… And we’re back.
So the other important element of the story triangle is … anyone remember?
Whether it is a story you are reading or the story of your life, it needs action. In writing circles this would probably be called “conflict” (that which advances the plot), but in life action simply means DOing.
I wrote a post a while ago about the quote “to Do is to Be” meaning, it is our behaviour that defines us. Well this is exactly what action is. Behaving or acting in such a way that you are actually living your story instead of just having it nicely tucked away as a dream somewhere in the back of your mind.
The lack of action can be seen all over the place. Any company (and I’ve worked for one or two) that says “we are about our people”, but doesn’t really do anything to make a work environment that really works for people. They do one or two token things and stop there.
Or anyone you’ve ever met that is all talk and no guts. They talk a big game, but when time comes to actually do something they claim is easy … they back out.
As a coach I have to keep my eye on being in action all the time, and really if you want to advance your life with power, so should you. I need to because I’m talking about action all the time, so I end up looking like the guys who is all talk if I don’t actually do any of the stuff I’m talking about.
That’s one of the reasons I have my own coach. I believe in the power of coaching and I tell people that having one can really move you forward, but that would just be a hollow ‘sales pitch’ if I didn’t follow it myself.
I have a coach because I know that it is not always easy for us to be aware of ALL of the stuff we’re doing and having someone else who can powerfully shed some light on that is something I really appreciate.
So Action is the third leg of the triangle of story (Purpose, Truth, and Action) and if you really want to have a powerful story that leads to a powerful life, write some action into your story today, then DO IT.
Until next time, keep laughing and taking action.
